What are cookies?

Cookies are small files that are transferred to a user’s computer when visiting a webpage. They make it possible to ensure that all of the website functions are working, to adapt specific content to individual users, and to constantly improve the website by analyzing visits. Cookies may be stored for the duration of a single session or longer. With each additional visit, the webpage can retrieve information only from the cookie that has already been stored on the user’s computer in order to identify it; however, cookies do not contain personal information and do not enable access to the computer.

Legal bases

The new Electronic Communications Act (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia no. 109/2012; hereinafter: ZEKom-1) introduced the amended Electronic Communications Privacy Directive. The provisions of the new legislation entered into force on 15 June 2013 and apply to all webpages that use web cookies and similar technologies to function.
